Founder: Rev Richard and Rebecca Jock and Family
Richard Jock is a Sudanese national who left Sudan in 1997 to study in the Bachelor of Theology program at ABTS (Arab Baptist Theological Seminary) in Lebanon. He met his wife Rebecca while she was on mission there and they married in September 2000. They now have three children, Joshua, Solomon, and Jonathan.
Richard pastored Sydney International Christian Fellowship (Sudanese Christian Fellowship) in Blacktown, Sydney, Australia, from 2002 to 2006, becoming senior pastor in 2004. This church has about 200-250 members, mainly Sudanese refugees. In mid-2006 Richard handed over leadership to Pastor Nathan Kuku in order to focus more thoroughly on SALAM's work in Sudan.
The vision of the Jock family is to return to Sudan and spearhead SALAM's work training leaders, caring for orphans and serving the community by ministering to the spiritual and physical needs of the people.
(Please note, all staff members and others working with SALAM are volunteers.)
The SALAM Board
The leaders of SALAM are supported by a group of members who meet regularly and volunteer their time and efforts to help with the ministry. This group consists of people from varying racial and Christian denominational backgrounds, united simply in their desire to minister to the needs of the people of Sudan. These members are Dr Ramsis and Amani Gayed, John and Louise Stevens, Christopher Chan, Sharlene Glennie, Simon Daniel, Ps Nathan Kuku, and from AAMA, Rev Dr Gladwyn Turner, Ps Helen Turner and Ps Paul Hodsdon.
